After whipping up a quick simple and fabulous barbecued meal on a gorgeous summer evening, the last thing any of us want to so is clean the grill. But as tempting as it may be to leave it till you've enjoyed your dinner the reality is in only a couple of minutes you can have your BBQ back in tip-top shape.
Firstly, remove all the cooked meat and vegetables and while the grill is still hot give the plate and grates a good scrub with a strong brush. Be sure to work the brush between the grates as well as over the surface. The main objective is to remove any large burnt on food remains not to polish the life out of the grill. Its OK to leave some residue behind. It will only add to and enhance the flavor of future barbecues anyway. If necessary, the application of a little water can help soften and assist with this part of the cleaning.
Secondly, grab a couple of paper towels and remove all of the loosened material. Once the grill has cooled, with a fresh paper towel, apply a thin coat of oil to all the metal surfaces. This will help to provide a barrier to prevent rusting and bacteria forming when the barbecue isn't use.
Finally, now all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your meal and relax, knowing that all the cleaning up has been done already.
