What (and what not) to wear with cowboy boots

Cowboy boots can be universal as far as what you can wear with them. Popular styles suggest nice, tight fitting jeans, a tucked in button-up shirt (any material will work), and a leather jacket, or vest matching the color of the boots. You may want to add a matching cowboy hat to complete the look. Either way, jeans, a nice dressy shirt and cowboy boots look incredible without the extras. Women should tuck the pant legs into the boots, and men should wear their pant legs on the outside of their boots.

Mini-skirts about mid-thigh length work with cowboy boots, with or without stockings-as long as your legs are smooth and have a little color. Half-shirts with mini-skirts and cowboy boots look great, even dressy silk shirts look good with a mini-skirt and cowboy boots.

Long skirts or dresses that sit just above the ankle are great with cowboy boots. Women look very classy and stylish pairing cowboy boots with ankle length skirts, or dresses. Blouses look incredible with a long skirt, and the cowboy boots seem to add more style than a simple pair of shoes or sandals.

Shorts do not look good with cowboy boots, I can't even fathom the idea of going out in public wearing such attire. I have seen people wearing cowboy boots with shorts, and they look silly enough to get negative attention.

Loose jeans with cowboy boots don't work well because the pants gather too much at the top of the boot, or if they are boot cut jeans, they tend to take away from the cowboy boot. Loose jeans make your feet look very small, and if you are covering your cowboy boots with loose jeans, all you see are the tips of the boots.

Skirts cut from just above the knee to mid-calf do not work well with cowboy boots. We don't want to see just the knee, either there is a lot of leg, or none at all. If you wear a mid-length skirt with cowboy boots, your focal points are your knees, making the boots look gaudy.

There are also leather outfits paired with boots that create a unique look all your own. You can buy a leather mini-skirt to match your boots-make sure the skirt is mid-thigh length. Buy a lace top, or any top that will match your skirt. Buy a nice leather trench coat to match your boots and skirt, or buy a half-leather jacket with fringe. Lace is a favorite for this look-classy, and sleek.

Many men go for the full leather chaps over their jeans, matching the chaps carefully with their boots, matching leather vest, and cowboy hat. This is an authentic look, and many ladies love it. I wouldn't go shopping in the mall dressed like a cowboy, but a night out in a country club would be a blast.

Men also look great in black leather pants, black leather cowboy boots, and a black leather coat with a white button up shirt tucked into their pants, and a bolo tie-of course the cowboy hat needs to accompany this ensemble.

Cowboy boots shouldn't be worn with un-tucked shirts, sweaters, sweat-shirts, t-shirts, khakis or dress pants. You can pull off wearing a white t-shirt with black jeans and black cowboy boots, but tuck in the t-shirt-or the look becomes tired.

I haven't seen any unkempt cowboys or cowgirls on the big screen, and don't expect to see any soon. Cowboy boots are everyone's dressy-casual boot, rugged, yet classy.
