without washing your hands transfers to these surfaces and it multiplies and lurks there, waiting to make you sick. The next thing you know, you or your family is suffering from diarrhea, or rotavirus.
A few final things to think about when evaluating the health of your home are the overall air quality and the outdoor spaces of your home. The air you breath in your home can be full of things you wouldn't want in your lungs, just as it is outdoors where you find pollution and irritants to your system. Look into air filters and change the filters on your air conditioning unit and furnace often. Carbon monoxide, a odorless, tasteless and invisible gas that is highly toxic and can cause not only illness, but also death can be leaking from your gas appliances into the air of your home. Detectors for this gas are commercially available and would be a wise investment to help protect your family and keep your home healthy.
Health concerns do not end at things that make us ill either. Look around the outdoor space of your home (indoors as well) and see what can pose a safety risk. Broken steps on your porch, low lying tree branches, loose railings on your deck or cracks in your driveway are all hazards that can pose a danger to you or your family. An injury is a health hazard waiting to happen.
Your home can be your safe haven if you take the time to keep some of the pesky germs and safety concerns under control. No one expects you to live in a plastic bubble, but a little extra precaution can keep you and your family healthy.
