Books and the Beach go hand in hand like sun tan lotion and the beach towel, but what to read depends on the reader's genre interest. Despite genre interest paperback is the best thing to carry to the beach simply because the cost and risk of loosing a hard back book can make any book collector cry. All right now, onto the genre and the best picks.

If you are looking for a feel good series to carry to the beach during summer for a light hearted and happy read you can't go wrong with Jan Karon's "Mitford" series. The characters are life like, warm, and infectious making the books quick enjoyable reads.

Mystery readers should look for classic Agatha Christie. Eighty classic crime novels which make for quick intriguing reads, and all 80 can be found in paperback. Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple are subtle, yet rememberable crime fighters who are never wrong in their deductions. Classic crime fighting fiction, attention holding easy reads which can usually be finished before leaving the beach. For modern day crime try Mary Higgins Clark, whose books are suspenseful and thrilling making for great beach reads.

Other great reads for the beach include: Dorothea Benton Frank's books, especially if you are on a South Carolina beach; John Grogan's, Marley and Me; C.S. Lewis, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

None of the selections are serious, and reading at the beach shouldn't be serious; after all you are at the beach to relax and your reading should be carefree and relaxing as well. Pick books that are light, enjoyable quick reads. Something you can either finish while at the beach, or quickly after leaving the beach, because chances are once you leave beach relaxation and enter back into the hectic world in which we all live, fun and relaxing reading will not be easy to jump back into.
