How to end animal homelessness

Most Americans think it's normal to let a pet go out and roam or leave them along the road abandoned because they will be alright. When in all reality a pet is similar to a child in the sense it is raised in captivity and needs to be taken care of, being fed and watered, bathed etc.
Whether they realize it or not they are totally dependent on us.
When pets are out roaming free they are susceptible to all sorts of things. fleas and diseases too numerous to name. They cause fights, pregnancy, bites and many more other problems of which among them are being lost and theft. Many people don't think fully about a situation before they act, such as in the situation of getting a pet then having to get rid of it. But leaving it in the streets to die is not the answer as these animals were raised to be taken care of and will not know how to fend for themselves when left to their own devices.

What we need is an educated public. Someone needs to raise awareness on how important this subject is. If you drop a dog or cat off somewhere, chances are they may never eat again. There needs to be more animal rescue homes because there are always being mass euthenization because of lack of space. I would run one if someone would fund it. I can't afford it myself. But there are lots of people you could get to do it for free. people with big hearts.
