We seem to go from pumpkins to Christmas Trees before we have even celebrated Thanksgiving. After we have over indulged in the abundance on our platters and have feasted on too much pie. Except for a brief grace, will we even be truly thankful ?

There will be early risers on the Friday after Thanksgiving they will hurriedly make their way to our shopping malls. Their goal is to shop for the best on sale. This day is called "Black Friday."

We the most fortunate among us, have taken so much for granted. We succumb to the pleasure of over abundance. Some of us are as well guilty of over indulging our children. One would think that we have been indoctrinated into believing that "buying" is our greatest pleasure. For most of us it is about the giving, not an ordinary gift, but the best gift that we can afford. Hopefully we fill Christmas and holiday wishes. And also include the practice of our faith, this would be the greatest gift of all.

During the Christmas holidays ,there is always a great deal of psychological pressure on parents whose income limits any form of extravagance. The media feeds to our young all the toys and games that promise great fun. Every child then builds hopes with Santa Claus wishes. Catalogs come to our homes and the Internet awaits us. How we are both blessed and cursed at the same time.

For those of us who are aware of our blessings. Remember to contribute to the organizations for the less fortunate. Toys for Tots programs, and the Grant a Wish Foundation. As well as other local community organizations.

We can complain that the Christmas holiday is too commercialized, but it is we the shopper who shops. We do that at our own free will. Marketing knows we will be tempted by starting the season early, we will spend more, that is for sure. They are counting on it. We seldom disappoint.

We like to think that we are above the possibility of being controlled by the sales pitch and the enticements or their lure in the game. We are the silly putty in their hands. We succumb to them and are part of the holiday lights. Some of us love it; marketing knows this too.

We as the consumer are bought and sold ourselves. We have fallen victim to their prey. We can stop when ever we want to. Or can we ?
