Poetry: War

There are no atheist in war ,
you will not find one from shore to shore ,
When shells are bursting over head ,
The sounds of death and the feelings of dread ,

The only sounds you will hear ,
Are prayers to God and screams of fear ,
The dead laying at your feet ,
You pray to God and your not discreet ,

If only prayer would take you from the hell ,
And lift your body from its empty shell ,
To take you away from this thing called war ,
And give you something better to fight for ,

Any one who says they do not believe in God ,
Has not been covered with Earth and sod ,
For when death is at your door ,
You think of all the things to live for ,

War is hell upon the Earth ,
It swells and swells and builds up girth ,
Fear and sorrow twist your gut ,
And your face is covered in Earth and soot ,

Those of you that have been to war ,
Know the truth and the score ,
For in a war you are not alone ,
There are many laying around you prone ,

Dead or dying from the effects of war ,
Even the atheist knows not for sure ,
For when you are so close to death ,
He will pray just like all the rest .
