She laid awake, quiet as a cat.
Her breathing was the only sound
he could hear while by her bed he sat.
Holding onto her hand,he whispered
goodnight and began to stand.
She called out to her dear love,
"never leave my side".
He smiled and replied,
"of course I won't,
I couldn't if I tried".
