Assessing the cost of living off campus

Living off campus is a hard decision to make it really all depends on how you budget, travel time and if you have any roommates. It could be cheaper to live off campus if you don't have to travel far. Just think of the gas you would have to spend if you were about a five mile drive away, by my calculations and since gas prices are $3.12 cents, it would cost about $2,520 dollars if you went to school 9 months out of the year, that's about $280.00 dollars a month. An apartment in the area here where I live would cost about $900 dollars a month. So that equals to $1,180 dollars a month right there not counting how much you would spend on partying and all those extras snack/food, and then on top of that you would need to buy books, maybe pay for your car and car insurance. Sure It might be cheaper, but it all depends on how you live and the part of the country that you live in.

Sometimes it is easier to live on campus because you are closer to all your classes, you will make a lot more friends. You don't have to get up extra early if you have a morning class to commute, you can just practically jump out of bed and take a quick shower and go to class. You don't have to pay the school right then and there for staying on campus and they give you a meal account, you can take out a loan and it will help to pay for it, you just have to worrying about a payment plan later on when you are finished with school.

For me I think it was easier to live on campus, you don't have to worry that much about paying a lot for gas and food, and I had the luxury of only having to walk 5 or 10 minutes to go to class, so I could get that extra sleep in. I did not have to worry about rent or buying groceries, the only real thing I had to worry about was getting homework done and buying my books, since I get a loan and some grants for everything else. I even was able to work on campus.
