Sure getting something free sounds like a good idea. Just because you don't get caught does not mean you are not stealing. File sharing might seem like a good idea to you, but you are destroying a persons way of life, when that person is relying on making music and trying to sell it to their audience.
Peer-2-peer file sharing has contributed to the decline of the sales in the music industry. It only leads to lawsuits and more lawsuits, like the famous Napster lawsuit that started it all, and there is the risk of going to jail from having an illegal file sharing program. It can also help to generate more sales for the music industry because consumers get to sample a few songs from the artists album.
Just think of p2p as if you were giving out free product for companies like pert, or general mills. It can sometimes help the company/artist by promoting sales by having the consumer "sample" some of the "products"(songs). I am still not in one way or the other, simply because I believe that there should be a fairer deal on Cd's, because most of the time there is only one or two songs that are only worth it to simply buy the CD. With file sharing I can just get the song that I want, but it still is wrong to steal a song and in turn if file sharing makes sales drop sharply there definitely won't be any prices drops.
