Challenges of developing antiviral therapies against the HIV

There are only a few pharmaceutical companies that are willing to create an antivirial medicine for anything including HIV. The reason being is that they do not make much money on drugs that are only going to be used for a few weeks when it costs billions and at least 15 years to test and research and have it pass by a certain standard before it can be released to the public.

HIV is a virus that causes AIDS it is a disease that attacks the immune system the only treatment available helps slow down the growth of the virus. There is currently no treatment that rids the virus from the body. Before any treatment of any kind you have to take into effect the person's age, health(living conditions, weight, etc), pregnancy, any allergic reactions, any other conditions or symptoms, how far the HIV has affected you. Any one of these can change the type, when you need to start and how much of the treatment you need to slow the affect of the HIV.

It is a virus so if you don't take the medicine that your doctor prescribes to you regularly it will easily change it's design and defeat the medication and so you will have to take new medicine and pretty soon you will run out of options.
