such as times you feel most hungry, foods that aren't helpful to your diet so you can minimize them or kick them out of your diet altogether. Find out the caloric intake of the foods you eat (there is great help out there on the internet) so you can faithfully keep an accurate account of how much you are eating.
Also, make a list of foods you CAN'T do without. Things that you know are bad for you but you're going to eat them anyway because life isn't worth living without them. Find a way to work them in your diet. As a reward for doing something good for yourself, a treat after a hard day etc. I personally, can't live without chocolate. I buy a very nice box of chocolates and at the end of my day, I'll have one or two to treat myself, satisfy my chocolate passion and I can do it guilt free without worrying about "ruining my diet."
Exercise at least twenty minutes every day. I'm not talking about flinging yourself into an exercise regimen like jogging that you hate and won't keep up. Something as pleasurable as a walk 20 minutes a day will help you to increase your metabolic rate, which will burn off calories and will increase your stamina.
At some point, adding weight training to your work out will be very helpful in toning up your new body, adding more muscle to your body (which in turns burns more calories) and strengthen your bones which will help prevent osteoporosis.
Get enough sleep. A well rested body will not cry out for a sugar fix just for the energy to keep going. Not only that, but a body that gets enough sleep will lose weight faster and easier.
Finally or perhaps it should be first. Forgive yourself for the days you blow it. No one is perfect and dieting is hard. Be kind to yourself when you just can't face exercising today. Forgive yourself for that extra helping of birthday cake or Christmas cookie. Life will sometimes get in the way and you can't always stick to the plan. All is not ruined or lost. Just get back on the wagon and keep working at it. The weight will come off and you'll look better and feel fantastic.
And there's not time like NOW to begin.
