How does one really define "a good person"? Can one posit a formula or a blue-print which provides the criteria of "a good person"? Perhaps not. And what does it mean to be "good"? Does it refer to one who abides by all the laws within a given community? Is one "good" because he provides shelter and clothing for the needy, although he may be a slanderer and a petty thief? Debatable, indeed. Nonetheless, there may be some universal traits which, regardless of the situation and era, may be characteristics of what society perceives to be "a good person".
Let us examine the trait of "fairness". The man or woman who seeks to interface with others without a predisposed judgment of a person's color, race or creed will be, more often than not, considered to be "good" and earn the respect of his or her peers. He or she would be more likely to be called on to represent others.
Another likely trait of "a good person" is "showing respect to others". This, though seemingly trivial, reflects a lot about the nature of that person. He or she is willing to acknowledge another's presence and power; he or she is demonstrating acceptance of the fact that the universe is a melting-pot of differences. Consequently, this person will find a more comfortable niche in his milieu and will receive respect likewise. He would, no doubt, be considered "a good person".
Finally, "a good person" will likely to have the trait of "accessibility". Human beings need each other, and the person who is willing to find the time to "be there" for his or her fellowman will be in good stead with others. He or she will be considered "a good person".
It is interesting that, in defining "a good person", a recurring word or concept is "willingness". Maybe, in essence, we are not 100% good, but at least, we are "willing" to try to be "a good person".
