Career goals: Why you should put society on the back burner & go after your dreams

You are responsible for going after your dreams. Your life is your job. Society should have nothing to do with going after your dreams. Usually when you do not follow your dreams it is primarily because you can not see how this dream is going to come to fruition. You can not worry about how things are going to happen. Most people do not have the courage to go for what they really want in life...to go for their biggest, wildest dreams. People who knew early on what they wanted to be when the grew up and had the guts to follow through with that should not be shunned or belittled for that. Drive is crucial to getting what you want in life. Career driven people tend to be the people who really have the financial power and presence in our society. They tend to get things done. This is the key difference between most of the population and career driven people. Career driven people never give up because they believe in themselves enough to invest the necessary time, talent and skills into their career(s). These people are probably few in number. Most people who know what they want to be as a child and have never had that dream change are encouraged not to pursue their dreams by parents, family, clergy, guidance counselors, friends, etc.

Technology, Inventions, Commerce, Religion and Government drive how society views individual development. In America there is propensity for people to morph into someone others think they should be. Want to become a singer or musician? Well that is just too financially risky...why not become an attorney or physician instead. Want to become a fashion model? Well that is just too improbable so play it safe and get a good banking job instead.

You have to go with your instincts. Your dreams come from a source higher than society. If you have a life-long dream go for it. If you have been struggling from one career to the next in order to discover what you want to do, go for what you want. Even if you can not switch immediately from your current industry to your dream industry full time you should still network, moonlight and do whatever you can to follow your dream.

When you follow your dreams you are a happier, more content person. You are better equipped to deal with stress because you are doing something that enriches your life. Following your dreams brings you pleasure and enriches the world. You have dreams for a reason. Following your dreams can propel your career goals. You can meet people that you never would have met otherwise who have connections to the right hiring manager, recruiter, etc. When you do something that you have dreamed about, that you love doing it gives you a sense of purpose. It empowers you. This power connects you. If you want to be a singer record yourself on a webcam and put it on the web. Record yourself on an MP3 file and get that on the web so people can download it. Do what you love doing. Never give up.
