Boosting your immunity naturally

Good nutrition also means avoiding or reducing the intake of the foods which can place a lot of stress on your immune system. This includes limiting the intake of sugar, fat and alcohol. It is also important to eliminate any food allergens.

Step 2 is Physical Activity

Some physical activity everyday, whether it be walking, dancing, going to the gym, swimming or even just gardening strengthens your immune system. Exercise also releases endorphins, which make you feel good and relieves stress, both of which have a positive effect on your immune system. Yoga, pilates and stretching all help to relieve both mental and physical stress and also aids in good sleeping patterns. So by incorporating 30 minutes of physical activity everyday and some yoga or stretching everyday we can start to boost your immunity.

Step 3 is Cleanliness

Good personal hygiene practices will also help in preventing the spread of micro-organisms and infections. Combine this with safe food handling practices in the kitchen and you will help your immune system by giving it less ammunition to fight against.

Step 4 is Sleep

A good 8 hours sleep every night is essential for a healthy immune system. It is when your body is asleep that it does most of it's repairing and rejuvenating. Exercise will help as will reducing the intake of caffeine late in the day. If insomnia is still a problem then some Bach Flower remedies can help or some herbs such as Valarian Root, Passion Flower and Skullcap or essential oils of Lavender or Chamomile.

Step 5 is Emotional and Psychological

Having a healthy emotional quotient is essential. They say laughter is the best medicine and it certainly does help with promoting a healthy immune system. Laughing releases adrenaline and cortisone which are stress hormones. Laughter can also increase the number of Natural Killer T-cells (these are like the SAS unit of the white blood cell army). Music is fantastic for reducing stress and promoting feelings of happiness. It is extremely important to keep thinking positive thoughts as having a positive attitude helps you to effectively manage stress. Some people find writing a journal or poetry to be effective stress relievers, other people choose music or spending time with friends.

Step 6 is Water

Drinking 8 glasses of water a day is very important for keeping your immune system in ship shape condition. Not only is water important, drinking tea can also boost the immune
