Anime reviews: Please Teacher

Kei Kusanage is a young man with issues. He's experiencing adolescent angst at the age of eighteen. He is afflicted with a rare disease that causes him to pass out for months at a time (a standstill) whenever he is overly stressed. While he's unconscious, his body stops growing, but he continues to age. This is why he finds himself still in high school as an adult.

Kei's parents sent him to the country to live with his uncle, a doctor, and his aunt. They protect him, keeping the secret of his disease and picking up the slack. So, you might think Kei's life is getting easier. Well, no such luck for Mr. Kusanage.
While lying on the banks of a lake one evening, Kei witnesses a space craft rising out of the water. Right before his very eyes, a beautiful humanoid alien is suspended above the lake, bathed in an unearthly glow. Kei runs as fast as his feet can carry him, and returns home. Imagine his chagrin when, the very next day, he finds that the gorgeous alien female is his new homeroom teacher! She's very cheerful, and introduces herself to the class as Mizuho Kazume.
His horror only increases when he realizes that she recognizes him from their encounter at the lake. To top it off, Ms. Kazume moves into the apartment building next to Kei and his family. While Kei is helping her move in, he takes a spill in her apartment, with Mizuho landing on top of him. Her teleportation device malfunctions, at the most inopportune time, and the two end up teleporting into the bathtub at Kei's house! When his aunt and uncle see them in this compromising position, they jump to conclusions about the relationship Kei and his new teacher share.
In order to protect her secret, and appease Kei's aunt and uncle, Mizuho agrees to marry Kei. This is where the main plot of the series begins; the rest of the episodes are spent with the secret couple trying to keep Kei's friends and school faculty from finding out about their marriage. It's harder than you might think for the fledgling couple to protect their privacy; Kei's friends are particularly nosy and pushy, making it a point to show up at his house unannounced, as well as drilling him with questions about his activities outside of school.
This series has a palpable emotional undercurrent. Kei and Mizuho slowly discover that their marriage of convenience is becoming much less rehearsed as the days pass. As they slowly grow to love each other, and sexual tension starts to seep into their every interaction, the viewer is left on pins and needles, wondering when and if they are ever going to consummate their relationship. I won't spoil the ending, but suffice it to say that it's satisfying.
Fans of romantic comedies should definitely take a look at this series. It's poignant, hilarious, suspenseful, and sweet, or as, my brother in law call it, girly anime.
