How to stop a stalker

How to Stop a Stalker

The world today is a violent place but the truth is the world has always been violent. We have just become far more effective in our ability to display it. The other truth is that people also are better able to find and access help when its needed. Stalkers are a part of this landscape of violence. It is difficult to understand why one person becomes so acutely focused on another person to the exclusion of normal activity in their lives but it frequently happens. There are ways to put some safeguards in place if you happen to be a victim of a stalker. One of the first things to do is begin a paper trail. This may sound silly but the courts do like to see the efforts of an individual who is trying to obtain relief from a stalker. This means calling the police every time unwanted contact occurs with the stalker. It is important to remember that when trying to stop a stalker that this may be the most dangerous time. A stalker will resist any form of intervention so personal safety is tantamount. Secondly, Contact a local domestic violence shelter. The shelter may be able to assist in filling out paperwork for a restraining order against the stalker. Thirdly, tell friends, family and co-workers about the situation. Silence can place an individual at greater risk. There are a few more simple things that can be done to help. Change up any activities if the schedule is routine, do not make it easy for the stalker. Have a safety plan in place that you devise not someone else. You will remember your own plan better than someone else's. Have a co-worker walk you to your car. Call a family member or friend and let them know about your where abouts at all times. Be aware of your surroundings. Safety is the number one goal.
