essay should exceed a high school essay in other ways as well. It should show proper grammar usage, clarity of ideas, concise wording, and viable vocabulary. Expressing an idea intelligently in words that make sense without rambling on for pages is what you are aiming for. Remember that writing is little more than talking on paper. With the help of a good style manual, like the perennial "Strunk and White", you can translate the words you speak into the written world of an essay.
3.)SOMETHING TO SAY
How many people do you know that read essays for fun? The very word seems so dreary and old fashioned. Most people dread writing essays and would never dream of reading one for pleasure. That's because essays have a reputation for being works of writing that drone on and on about nothing for pages and pages. You may think that anyone who would want to write an essay without being assigned to do so is a pompous windbag with nothing better to do. Essays seem like a special kind of torture reserved for the scholar. Actually, essays are only truly boring if they have nothing interesting to say. Pick up an anthology of essays, like the "Oxford Book of Essays" and you might be surprised to find that you enjoy reading them. You'll find essays written by many famous historical figures dating back to the time of Shakespeare. Modern essays can be as entertaining as reading someone's blog. The point is, if an essay is fun to write, it will most likely make for great reading. Keep this in mind when you consider your professor who will be very weary from wading through a crop of other papers by the time he gets to yours. Give professors something interesting to read. Do your research. Hone your ideas. Be witty and original and make sure you are writing something that is worth reading. Double check the mechanics of your writing. Speak your work out loud to see if it makes sense. Read it to your friends to see if it is interesting. A good college essay can be immaculately written, but if it lacks meaning and interest, it will not be graded favorably.
