If you need to buy a schoolbag for a girl, there are some things to consider that will help you choose the right one. First, does the teacher want the students to have a certain type of bag, like a backpack? Are there any other limitations, such as no cartoon characters? Second, what will she be carrying in the bag? Heavy textbooks, or only folders? You want to make sure that the folders and books will fit in the bag. My daughter's friend had a cute little backpack with a Disney character on it, but it was too small for her folder to fit in it, and was virtually useless for its main purpose. If you answered "yes" to heavy textbooks, you may want to consider a backpack with wheels. Make sure these are allowed at the school before spending the money on one!
Another thing to consider is how long you expect the bag to last. Do you anticipate her using the same bag for several years? If so, then you may want to spend a little more (I spent about $15 to $20 last year on a backpack that my daughter is using again this year and will use next year, too). This is another good reason not to buy one with a cartoon character on it. She may like Care Bears now, but will she still like them in three years when she's ten? Perhaps not. I bought my daughter a simple pink backpack with mesh pockets on the sides for water bottles. If it lasts her until she's twelve and into listening to an I Pod or something like that, there's a pocket for it in the upper back with a hole to string the headphone wires through.
I hope that these tips help you to choose a bag appropriate for your girl's age and needs. If for some reason the bag doesn't work out, there are always returns, perhaps another child who may use it, or another purpose for the bag.
