Are you a vegetarian? Have you ever toyed with the idea of becoming one? If so, think seriously about the proposition. In becoming a vegetarian, there are many benefits. There are also, however, many sacrifices to be made. It means saying no to a very large food group meat, poultry, and, sometimes, fish. In order to become a vegetarian, you would have to completely deny yourself of these tasty and tempting dining options. That could be tough. I mean, who are we kidding? Meat tastes good! If it didn't, there wouldn't be countless chefs buying it and preparing it by the truck loads. And who's eating all this meat, anyway? We are. The average American eats hundreds of pounds of meat per year. That's a lot of meat! However, if you are serious about becoming a vegetarian, there are many great benefits. Foods like vegetable, nuts, lentils, pulses and dairy products can provide all the nutrients your body needs, with lower amounts of saturated fats and sodium. They can also boost your immune system and improve your overall general health. Today, vegetarian cooking and eating has never been more exciting or dynamic. Consider the choices and availability options now at your disposal. There are foods in just about every vegetarian category that are readily available. And there are so many fun and diverse ways to prepare your delicious and satisfying vegetarian meals anytime of the day breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert! There are so many good options that you never have to eat the same meal twice in one week. How about a fallefel with tahini and pickled turn-ups one night; black bean quesadillas with mango salsa another or wild rice with grilled vegetable and silken tofu sauce the next? Don't like any of those options? Ever thought of stuffing a portabella mushroom with bread crumbs, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and feta? Delicious! The options (delicious ones at that) are so very numerous. It's as diverse as you'd like it to be. The ingredients at your local super-market or gourmet foods store are bursting with flavors. So many of these beautiful ingredients are rich in history and culture; deep in flavors and textures; diverse in colors and backgrounds; high in fiber and nutrition. It's almost as if they have a story to tellA story that is both delicious and healthful. Yes! It's so time to get excited about your vegetarian menu! But before you start, do your research and get organized. There are innumerous excellent vegetarian cookbooks out there
