Blogs as PR Tools
Blogs are totally free. On various sites you can create a blog. The blog works just like your website. A company can make use of the blog as a PR tool and this is very cheap and won't cost a thing.
However there could be drawbacks, such as a disgruntled customer who adds negative content to your blog.
Another drawback is that you can not target your audience effectively. However, there are ways to get around this such as when advertising you can suggest visiting your blog.
If you have designed an excellent advertising and promotional campaign, you can include the blog in all your advertisements. You could induce them to go to your blog by initiating a contest where when they enter they have a chance to win a free service or product from your company. Just for entering they could receive something free.
This will bring them to your blog. When they get there, there should be a lot of valuable information about your product in the blog. They will become more familiar with your product.
Each day you could enter interesting facts and information about your product and give history and information about the company.
You can also have a website with an attached blog. This works well if you have a large website with many written materials on it. This is a good idea for the small entrepreneur who writes books and papers and has colleagues who pay attention to his work
After reading his newest information on the website, they can then go to the blog and hash over familiar and relevant ideas revolving around scientific and mathematical research.
This idea could possibly work for the larger corporation also. There is the website and the attached blog. You can read all about the company's mission statement, purpose, information about products, financial statement on the website and then go to the blog for some fun information to respond to.
However for either the website or blog to work well at bringing in new customers, a customer base would have to be targeted and promoted through advertising in order to bring them to your website and your blog.
So blogging is really not a very direct public relations tool. Whereas the spectacular event, the cocktail party, or the many other types of PR tools are much more direct.
However you also have to get them to the spectacular event so that could be compared to getting them to your blog. Perhaps your next PR event could be the blog party.
