Las Vegas Trip.
In March of 2004, my wife and I combined a trip to Los Angeles with a trip to Las Vegas. We flew into Vegas, spent the night, rented a Jeep and drove to LA the next morning. After our time in LA, we drove back to Vegas for a day before heading home. It wasn't nearly long enough & I had instantly fallen in love with Vegas. I knew I wanted to return someday, hopefully soon, but no matter how soon it was, it couldn't be soon enough for me. I only had half an hour to play while in that fabulous city, but I came out $18. ahead.
My wife has got to be the Queen of travel deals & found us a flight to Las Vegas for an unbelievable $4. The flight back cost $85., but still that was a phenomenal deal. I had her check to make sure we got to fly on the inside of the plane. At that price, you never know. It didn't even matter that we had to fly out of Detroit, which was a 5 hour drive. We were going back to my fun town! She even found accommodation in the Stratosphere hotel for $58. a night.
The drive to Detroit was uneventful until we actually got to Detroit. We didn't know there are two Detroit airports the City Airport, and the Metro Airport. Naturally the directions we had printed up were for the wrong one, but we soon figured it out and made it to the airport in plenty of time to sit and wait for our flight.
The airline, Spirit Air was new to me. I had never heard of it, but would gladly fly it again. It was a no frills flight, with no TV in the headrests but for the fares they charged, I guess they needed every penny for fuel and had nothing left over for TV's. Given the choice I'd rather have fuel in the tank than a TV in the headrest.
Having forgotten my watch, and my wife rarely ever wearing one, the only timepiece between us was my cell phone which we were instructed to turn off while on the plane. This made it difficult to determine how much time had passed since we took off, but we arrived on time, a little more than 4 hours later.
It was dark when we arrived, and 3 hours earlier in Vegas than back home, but we didn't care about the time. The city was lit up just as I remembered and we couldn't wait to get out of the airport and onto the shuttle bus that would take us to our hotel. We had picked the Stratosphere not only for the deal on the room, but because it was at the end of the strip closest to the old downtown area that I had missed the visit before. From there, it was a convenient trip in either
