What's the fastest way to lose weight? Consume fewer calories than you burn. Oh, how those words are hated because this is easier said than done, as any dieter will tell you.

What is a diet anyway?

The word diet has been given a bum wrap. We automatically think that any food that is considered a diet food must taste awful. Not so at all.

Whether it is fast food or raw vegetables, what you eat on a regular basis is your diet. This, along with how much exercise you get, is what determines your size. There are a few medical exceptions to this, but for the most part this is true for all of us.

The thing to remember is that you get out of something what you put into it. So if you live on fat foods, your body will be fat, if you eat junk food, well let us just say your body will pay a price. For the same reason, if you eat healthy foods, your body will be healthy.

There are five main problems with most diets and these are the reasons we tire of them.

1- They restrict what you can eat
2- Allow you too small a portion
3- Do not fit in with a busy lifestyle
4- Require you to buy special expensive foods.
5- They will ruin your health

After a few weeks on these diets, we start to cheat. Our body sends a message to our brain that we have been in a cycle of starvation and that food is now available so eat, eat, eat. What does this do to the four weeks we stuck to the diet? It adds back the weight we lost and a few more pounds just in case there is another starvation cycle.

I have found a diet that anyone can live with and lose weight while maintaining good health. The Cabbage Soup Diet! It is said to have come from the University of Alabama in the eighties but no one knows its origin for sure. You can find it at cabbagesoup.com. Read all of it before you make up your mind. You will lose weight as never before on this diet of cabbage soup, fruits, vegetables, beef and milk.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is packed with nutritious vegetables and fruit and is extremely low in fat. Go on this diet for NO LONGER THAN 7 DAYS AT A TIME! Then resume your normal eating for at least two weeks.

This diet is too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue for longer than seven days. Take a multi-vitamin while you are on this diet.

I can attest to the fact that it worked with no side affects for me. Except that is for the 12 pounds I lost on the first week and the eight pounds I lost on the second week. My energy level is up and I am feeling fine. One note I might add is that I did eat my regular diet for two weeks in between. I will soon start my third week.

So what is the fastest way to lose weight? For me it is the Cabbage Soup Diet. I've tried them all through the years and this is the one I kept, because this is the one that works. This diet has lingered when others have faded because it is not costly, nor is it a forever diet.

As with any diet change, you should check with your doctor before trying this one. Also a little extra activity won't hurt at all.
