As a teacher you know you can advance your career and income potential by obtaining a Master's Degree in Education. When you look into colleges that offer a program in this field of study, you will find specializations with in that particular major. I currently hold two Master's Degrees in Education. One is titled Instructional Leadership and Curriculum instruction and the other is Master's in Education and Technology. When researching advanced degrees I knew I wanted the field of education but I was not sure which area I was interested in which to specialize. Having a degree in Child Development did not help to further my career as an elementary school teacher so I wanted to find a program that would specialize in elementary studies. Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Instruction focused on researching, writing, and teaching elementary curriculum. Later I was given the opportunity to go back to school and felt that technology would be an area that would be interesting and relevant to current educational trends. Although the Master's Degree is still in education, new information was included in my classes and all the classes focused on using technology in the curriculum.
Really, a Master's in Education is a way to specialize in a particular area of education. As a teacher, being able to write this information on a resume will help to advance your career and earning potential no matter what concentration of study you choose. Also, being in a program with other teachers is a great way to find out what is happening outside your school. Any program that is titled Master's of Education will be beneficial and should fit nicely into what you are teaching.
