Anybody would ask you to be very polite and calm on your first date but lets see something different over here.

First wear an attire in which you feel you're very comfortable with. This reduces your nervousness as you dont feel uneasy and allows you to be free. Second be punctual on time as this itself shows how committed you're. Being on time shows your character too!

Now to the way you be on your first date. Being calm is great but dont be too calm that might lead the other person talking a lot and it never looks like a date from then on. Voice your opinion and show how interested you're in the other person. Being humorous helps. Avoid sensitive subjects and if your date talks something which you're not interested in just politely say you're not interested to make your time spent more lively. If you're going to have some dinner or lunch its best to order for your date first and then go for yours. Revealing too much personal information or asking too much of the same from your date should be avoided because still you're strangers and hence the other wont like this.

Being very straightforward and keeping yourself open helps a lot. Neither be too much authoritative nor give-in too much as they never work out. Treating your date equal to you gives them a nice feeling. Complimenting your date for the attire they're wearing or some of their behaviours would surely be a plus.
