Debating whether Mark McGwire should be in the baseball Hall of Fame

Well, give me a minute to think about this one, don't really need the entire
60 seconds.... Oh NO NO NO NO a thousand times NO! Even in todays permissive society,
with so many shades of gray, Isn't cheating still cheating? I think when one considers the
"steroid era" players for the Hall of Fame you have to consider whether or not you can divide

careers into pre steroid and post steroid use. McGuire was certainly a prodigious home run
hitter before taking steroids, andro and whatever other "supplements" he took but he clearly became an all-time great homer king AFTER the steroids. Also let's not forget that throughout
his career McGuire was always a ONE tool player, a one trick pony if you will. He never hit
for average, was not a good fielder or base runner; so how could anyone consider bestowing upon
him the highest accolade in baseball when his only true skill was clearly enhanced by his use
of steroids.

Furthermore any long term consideration that he may have generously been given
had to be forfeited with his shameful performance while testifying before Congress. Mr. McGuire
looked like baseballs' version of Jimmy Swaggart for Gods sake! All that was missing were the
tearful cries of "I Have Sinned"!

Lastly consider that a year or so after his retirement, while playing in a golf
tournament he appeared as if someone had stuck a pin in his cartoonish muscle suit. Gone were
the giant steroid induced muscles and the monster shots out of the park. Gone also, unfortunately
was that magical air of excitement that he created during that dream 70 HR season. Mark did appear genuinely contrite and repentant before Congress so I seriously doubt that even he would vote himself into the Hall Of Fame.
