System of Indian Medicines and practices are quite different from that of modern medical approach. Modern medical science is based on 'seeing is believing'. Doctors will question patients for the symptoms and do all sorts of tests to decide the problem. But Indian doctors will use a different method of test, diagnose and explain how the patient is suffering.
Indian medical system is not proved by science but give good relief from illness and maintain good health without repeating. Indian medical system is mentioned in Vedas. This will indicate how ancient is this Indian medical system. Rig and Yajur vedas are praising God for providing herbs to cure all our deceases. 'Adharvana Veda's' first poem itself praise the God for providing (Specified) herb for curing leprosy. But, today we could not recognize the herb by that name.
Three blood vessels in our wrist are considered for testing. Using three fingers of the doctor, pressure of blood flow in these vessels are studied. Combining the three, Indian doctor's tell which part or organ in the body is affected. At times, more than one organ or part could have been affected. Then Doctor will tell the sufferings of the patient because of the failure of organs. The three blood vessels are called 'NADI' in Tamil. Good experienced Indian doctors could tell perfect diagnosis of the body.
Method of diagnosis and corresponding medicines were written by many saints called
'Siddhars'. Old aged ladies in India know medicines for common deceases like cough, viral fever, wounds etc.. Long standing major deceases alone will be attended by doctors in India. Medicines will be prepared by doctor himself and given to patients. All Indian doctors will give medicines from Sidha, Ayurvedic and Unani. Origin for sidha is South and Ayurvedic is north. Unani is from neighbors.
Ladies themselves will use medicinal items in cooking to avoid many illness. Turmeric, garlic, ginger are major ingredients in Indian cooking having medicinal values. Turmeric said to control cancer. Ladysfinger is said to improve thinking power. 'Asaphotida' a gum will give flavour in food items. It also improves digestion. Neen flower and bitter guard are useful to clear anti bacteria.
Dry ginger, pepper and 'Thippili' mixed and powdered. This is called 'Thirukadugam'. South Indian people will have this in all their houses. This will clear common cough, improve digestion and control the temperature of the body. 'Nelavembu' a herb used to cure Jaundice.
Modern science say that our skin will not allow anything to enter inside. But, an ointment cures stomach pain if applied externally. Answer is there in Indian medicines and gives good result but without proof. That is Indian medicine. Relief in Indian medicines are slow but permanent, cures the root cause whereas modern system cures the symptoms and not the core. Indian medical system is in dying state even though Government encourages with full support.
