HER LITTLE BLACK BOOK (WAITRESS IN THE CITY)
she ain't looking for love
a girl's got to have her space
that's why her little black book's
got white-out on every single page
she's got plenty of friends
but they all seem like fair-weather to me
lonely as hell
she brags about being so free, free, free
she's just another
waitress in the city
biding time and looking pretty
see her late nights in the grocery store
she gets off at 12, hangs out till 4
waitress in the city
on her bedroom mirror she writes lipstick poetry
stays home on Sunday Nights to read the dictionary
smoking like a chimney, yeah, she's on her way
to the charity ward as a lonely old maid

waitress in the city, biding time and looking pretty
see her late nights at Club Creole
ask her what she does, she doesn't know
she's just a waitress in the city

waitress in the city

but he hasn't come through yet
that's okay cause in the meantime
she'll take Juliette
waitress in the city
see her late nights in the coffee shop
making eyes at the hippies and the cop
dog-eared copy of Nietzsche in her hand
but beyond good and evil
nobody understands
the waitress in the city
so picky and choosy cause she knows what it takes
that's why her little black book's got white-out
on every single page
