I feel an important reason for studying the Bible is to know more about God. A number of years ago as I was studying the book of Psalms I noticed how many things David said that God is. A classic example is Psalm 18:2 where David says "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. The more I read passages like this, the more I realized that each of the things David said God is tells us something that can help us in our daily Christian life. I began noting the things David said and later began noting passages like that all through the Bible. What I found was both an encouragement and a challenge to me to be a better Christian. It also helped me to learn to depend on God more and trust more in His tender care. My hope is that this short book can be an encouragement to help further you in your Christian life also. It is my prayer that these ideas will encourage, enlighten and bless you as much as they have blessed me. I chose the title of I Know You By Name, because the verse that tells us that has had a great impact on my life.
I Knew You By Name
I knew you before the world began,
Long before my Son was born a man.
I knew your name and your every care.
Before your life began, I was there.
Before your parents knew of your birth,
In my eyes, you had the greatest worth.
I already knew you by your name,
And knew the day my gift you would claim.
I knew when you'd see the gospel light,
And the day when you're soul would take flight.
I cradled you from inside the womb,
And I'll hold your hand until the tomb.
You'll never know a time without me,
Each day my presence you'll always see.
Exodus 33:12&17
The story in this chapter is of Moses speaking to God outside the tabernacle of meeting. The people of Israel had sinned against God and Moses was pleading on their behalf. In verse eleven we find that God spoke to Moses the way that a man speaks to a man. It is clear from this passage that Moses had a unique relationship with God. Moses probably knew God better than any man alive at that time. Moses still wanted something more. He pleads to God for the opportunity to see God's face. Moses starts out by saying in verse twelve you have said I know you by name. Later on in verse seventeen God tells Moses, I know you by name. As I thought about this some thoughts came to my mind about what God was trying to tell Moses. First of all
