To the young lady who asked for suggestions for her boyfriend's birthday gift: You didn't mention your boyfriend's age, but I'm guessing you are both older teens or young adults. Let's see what we can come up with.

Many people are baffled when it's time to find a birthday gift for the special person in their life. But deciding on a gift for a boyfriend doesn't have to be too difficult if you start well before his special day. Don't end up just getting SOMEthing because you ran out of time!

- Is he a car, truck, or motorcycle kinda guy? Accessorize it! Check out Pep Boys for a great selection of favorite vehicle-related items.

- What are his hobbies and interests? Is he into sports? Something related to his favorite activity is always appropriate. Does he play chess or other board games? Darts? Anything he enjoys doing in his spare time might provide an idea.

- Is he a computer buff? Software, computer accessories, memory sticks and cases, anything computer-related is a great idea. There are small electronic items that guys like, too, and most of them are thrilled with a new "toy." Gadgets are always fun.

- Do you know if he's been looking for a certain book, CD, or movie? These are ideal gifts for your boyfriend. Concert tickets or tickets for an upcoming game, or a play he may have been wanting to see would be nice.

- If he's in school, something from the school store would be memorable. Does he need a new backpack? How about a travel mug with the school logo on it? A great-looking school sweatshirt or jacket would be wonderful. Depending on the school, items may be available online.

- Some guys are jewelry guys, and some aren't. If your boyfriend is, the classic engraved ID bracelet is a really nice idea and something he'll wear for a long time. If he has body piercings, you might want to fill in some of the holes with new jewelry.

- Wallets, leather-bound desk planners or journals, or anything for the office if this is his domain, will be appreciated if it's coming from you. Personalized gifts are special. A great-looking picture frame (masculine, maybe leather) with a picture of the two of you would be thoughtful.

- Do you know the name of his favorite cologne? That's always a great option. Or be traditional and opt for a dozen roses, or good chocolates. He'd be surprised to get flowers and/or candy! You would know best if this would go over well.

If you've tried and can't find a gift you think he'd like, take him out for dinner at a nice place and treat him to a movie afterward. Or if you're on a really limited budget, just bake him a cake and decorate it yourself. Or prepare his favorite meal. Don't forget to include a great, romantic birthday card to go along with whatever your choice is.
