Poetry: Waiting

Saying goodbye is never easy
But imagine doing it more often than you'd like
Saying goodbye to the love of your life-

Such is the pain of an army wife.

Staying alone after a while loses it's peace
It is then that you find you are never at ease
Bad days never end and the good ones are never great
At night you lie in bed wide awake.

Such is the life of an army wife

Standing in line at the post office to often
Trying hard to just blend in
No one understands the secret pain and strife

That is held inside the heart of an army wife

Days pass and seasons change
She carries on and keeps the nest
She knows she must do her very best
She smiles on the outside
But inside it cuts like a knife

The secret sorrow of an army wife

Her heart is filled with pride for her soldier, but there is also a large void
Only one man can fill, and she fears that void will remain vacant
If he should never return
It is only his smile that can change her world
His safe return is her constant wish

What she'd do for just one kiss...

Alone she stands, as strong as she can

Such is the life of an army wife
