What is liberal feminism

Liberal feminism is an ideology of egalitarianism. The tenets of liberal feminism are an equal legal standing of men and women under the law, equality of outcomes and opportunities, and legal and social mechanisms of redress for oppression and/or abuse due to patriarchal or man-centered social structures.

Theoretically, liberal feminism is an equalizing and liberating ideology which should bring the sexes together in equality and unity. In practice, liberal feminism is a branch of socialist thought which has done tremendous damage to traditional social structures including marriage and family. Typically, liberal feminism is closely associated with abortion, divorce, competition between the sexes, preferential hiring and promotion for women, educational advantages for women, and many other public policy initiatives.

In reality, there never was an overriding patriarchy in the West which would warrant liberal feminism. The West through it's religious and political enlightenment over the last few hundred years has become the ideal model of balanced male and female relationships. Men and women are different, yet complimentary. Liberal feminism tells us that men and women are the same, with equal abilities and desires. This goes against religious teachings, biology, philosophy and simple reality. Men and women are different. However, the ideology of liberal feminism has gained so much popularity that it is functionally replacing traditional structures. We see this through increases in divorce, cohabitation, abortion, etc. Feminism has effectively replaced traditional norms.

Of course people still marry and have what we could call traditional relationships, but the dynamic between the sexes has changed. People are a bit more egalitarian in their interactions, yet less committed. Family and marriage is far less important while individuality is held up as the supreme goal. Liberal feminism could be defined as one of the most important social philosophies of contemporary Western culture; both in theory and practice.
