Relationships can end for an innumerable amount of reasons. In many cases, when two people end a relationship, they simply go their separate ways and don't look back. In other cases, however, one or both parties in a failed relationship feel that they can and should give the relationship, and their former partners, a second chance. If you want to get your ex back, here are a few tips to help you seal the deal.
1. Take time to think. It may be easy, particularly just after a relationship has ended, to miss your ex and give false hope to the idea of reconciliation. If you feel that you want to get back together with your ex, you shouldn't rush things. Be sure to take enough time to yourself to ensure that this is what you truly want. The worst thing that you can do is make a second attempt at a relationship without being absolutely certain that it is what you want. Making a half-fast attempt at reconciling can often result in negative feelings between the individuals involved in the relationship and can many times cause more damage than good.
2. Talk to your ex. If you've taken a good amount of time to think about things and have firmly decided that reconciling with your ex is what you really want to do, then approach them about the issue. Have an open, honest discussion with your ex about the possibility of reconciling in order to get a feel for what they think about the idea. Remember, both of you must be willing to give the relationship a second chance. If you need to convince your ex to make the attempt, the likelihood is his or her heart won't be completely into it, so don't waste your time. Only continue if you both feel like you can work equally towards the common goal of reconciling.
3. Analyze your former relationship. If you want to get back together with your ex, you're going to need to analyze what went wrong in your relationship before. If your relationship dynamic was not working before, you both need to communicate with each other and compromise to negotiate a relationship dynamic that WILL work for you both. You can't fix things between you if you don't know what went wrong in the first place, so be sure that you talk to each other (without judgment) about why your first attempt at a relationship failed.
4. Make a plan. After you determined what went wrong in your relationship the first time, come up with a plan together on how you do a better job to resolve conflicts between you. Make a plan for dealing with the issues that contributed to your relationship's failure the first time, then you can begin to really work at resolving these issues.
5. Work on it. Working on the issues between you and your ex can often be a tumultuous and arduous path. If you both really want your relationship to succeed, it can. Just remember, your results will be a direct reflection of the effort you put into your relationship.
Overall, give each other a break. Remember that the process of reconciling a former relationship and working past previous issues can be a roller coaster of emotions, so be sure that you give each other time and space to deal with the ups and downs. Just remember to turn towards each other, rather than away from each other, as you take small steps to recovering your love for one another.
