Romance to women is not having to tell the man in their life what to get them, yet still receiving the gift that either they'd wanted all along, or the gift that they didn't know they'd wanted all along but absolutely love. It's a hard thing to figure out for a man. The fumble through the store and find themselves lost and without a clue, racking their brains for those subtle hints that they're sure their wife or girlfriend dropped no less than a thousand times. Not to worry, it's the thought that counts.
A good place to start is with something personal and from the heart. Think of the years that you've spent with her, not the years that she's spent on the earth. Count how many birthday's you've spent with her and maybe get her something to mark that occasion, perhaps it's a special one this year, like ten or twenty. Think of it like an anniversary year and mark it with the appropriate fanfare, like something platinum or gold, or even go all out with diamonds if the budget allows. You could get something engraved, like a double frame of the first year you were together and leave a spot open to take a picture of this year together. Something for little or no money along this line is a letter or a poem with a line for each year that you've been together, telling her something special about her and the time you've shared.
When a man is panicked about what to get for his wife or girlfriend he should try to remember that he likely knows her better than anyone. He knows what her favorite colors are, her favorite scents, her favorite flowers, her favorite activities. Try putting all of that knowledge together. Plan a night on the town for her. Maybe go to her favorite store and have the salesgirl help you select an outfit for her. Check her closet if you really don't know her size. Make reservations for the two of you at her favorite restaurant and take her out, looking lovely in her new clothes, having greeted her at the door with a beautiful bouquet, of course. When you bring her home, have the bathroom prepared with candles and lotions in her favorite scents and maybe soft music, and let her relax.
Most romantic gifts just take a little bit of knowledge and a little bit of planning. As long as there's evidence of forethought into a gift, she'll be delighted. She just wants to know that you cared enough to think of her longer than it took to stand in line at the checkout stand.
