Believe it or not there will aways be people within our society who strongly believe in paying the exact amount of money requested for each and everything they buy. Yes, and they do not want to pay one penny more for what they bought. As luck would have it, and due to the fact that a State sales tax is also added to the total, most purchase totals include a few pennies as part of the total amount due.

If the penny no longer existed, more than likely those business people would simply round up the total amount. That means that the buyer will pay more than the asking price for that particular product or service. Sure, a few pennies overcharge might not sound like much to the average person, but all of those few extra pennies do add up to dollars in the long run.

If a person makes a thousand separate purchases each year and the average round up amount is two cents for each purchase, well, that total is twenty dollars. Yes, twenty dollars can pay for your breakfast within a restaurant for a week in most places.

As for me, I'm not willing to simply give away that much money because that seemingly worthless penny no longer exists. To me, each and every penny is very important.
