whole look together.
Sports based rooms are pretty easy to create. Here, the choice of color should be left to the teen, though little hints of his preference of sport can be incorporated in wall hangings, or in the bedlinen since most team games have their own set of colors. Photographs and sports gear can add to the ambiance of the room.
Op-Art is a throwback from the sixties but has come back into fashion now, where colors that are opposite are put together to make contrasts. This is very easy to achieve and the use of masking tape on walls to mask off different colored areas is very simple and the teen can be encouraged to join in creating their own look. Bedlinen in op art is often available and if not available in your area can easily be achieved by using contrasting pillows and quilt covers.
IDEAS
By opening up discussions with the teen on what their ideas are, you are respecting that they are old enough to make choices. Talking about the planning of the room helps you to decide the colors to avoid, and also combine your thoughts and theirs to create something especially personal. Here, they can sketch out their ideas, and you can work through the whole process of planning with them, and sharing the work with the teen helps them to appreciate how much effort it takes to achieve that personalized look as well as giving them practice for later in life.
Colors
The mainstay color of the room must be a choice that the teen can live with. Many parents make the mistake of taking those colors link pink or blue thinking that girls and boys automatically accept those colors society associates with the different sexes. This may be so when they are babies, though each child will develop their own tastes and styles and you may not always approve of their choices.
One of the most important things as a teen grows up is that they have their own private space in which to relax, think, work, play, or just hang out. If you choose colors they disapprove of, it is almost like an invasion of what is their space.
Extras
The extras that can be added at the end of the decorating process will probably be evolutionary. Teens accumulate their own stuff, though here, the choice of pictures and accessories for the bedroom can be worked on together. Looking at their need for reading lights, desk space, or even the furnishings, there is the probability that the teen is more useful than you think at helping you adapt existing furniture making it fit the scheme. For example they would be very handy at painting up furniture, and here this can be done in a safe area such as a garage where they can't harm anything, but they can be part of the design process.
A teens bedroom is their place and most teens like to have a say in the decoration and the theme of the room. By letting them help and decide colors, you may be surprised that most teens have very definite ideas that can be combined with your experience to produce a room they are proud of.
