World tourism since the 80s has consisted of swathes of western people using huge amounts of expensive fuel and polluting the heck out of the sky to fly 1000s of miles, in droves, every day, to use their cash to lie on beaches in places where people are mostly too poor to live outside of straw huts.
The reason almost all these countries got like this is that for several hundred years until VERY recently the ancestors of these people flying around in planes lying on beaches had gone to all the same countries, heavily armed, tried to kill everyone and take everything and had left the places completely ruined.
So world tourism is a pretty sick thing and has indeed bred "terrorism" (which is a world apart from "muslim extremism" - which can include fasting too much (which is hardly dangerous to anyone but the person fasting). Loneliness is the biggest biproduct of muslim extremism, whereas death is the biggest biproduct of terrorism (and most terrorism is carried out by humans, of just about every race and colour and religion and political 'persuasion' - usually in a way which we simply call 'criminal' - eg that mugger, black, white or whatever shade at all, of the many available).
Very twisted is the attitude of working most of your life inside bureaucracies which produce more damage than good for EVERYONE, which drain resources and make the whole world more and more financially on a hair-trigger, and then spending a few weeks each year polluting the skies and then going and getting drunk in some foreign country, enjoying resources which are almost entirely unenjoyed by the desperate 'locals' and then returning to slavery, having only known the inside of bureaucracy and a few stolen moments on stolen beaches.
As a muslim, moreover, I was afraid to travel to the racist USA before terrorism got how it did, and even more afraid now. ALL the muslims I know have been harassed when travelling to the USA and most are middle-class well-groomed largely atheist unholy folk that people like osama bin laden would send straight to hell (once he achieved his ambition of being called god).
But the pollution, wastage and pure conceitedness is the real problem. After 100 years of carving the world up I think westerners should contribute to making the world better. Tourism is just whoring the dead former-imperialist colony-zones even more. Whoring them after death.
The west owes the lands it messed up a huge amount of time and effort and money and help and this will have to go on for maybe many decades, perhaps beyond centuries still. All the theft and hoarding of the world's resources has not been undone even if western countries have (in some cases) stopped trying to thief even more. The USA, of course, continues with its thefts but it is clear that other world powers, eg Russia and China, are starting to take the USA in hand. The pathetic 'sanctions' against Iran are a cosmetic thing to make the governments in the west seem less futile to their own voters, however it is likely that Russia and China will flagrantly ignore the sanctions, no matter what they say on the surface... eg their weapons were found already in Iraq prior to the US invasion of Iraq recently.
Tourism is an insult. It is time for the world to wake up to the fact that the "third world" can be history TOMORROW - if we knock down all our brick walls of greed. Literally tomorrow you could be part of stopping the fact that someone starves to death every 3 seconds. Whilst you read this article dozens of them died. And you have the gall to go to those countries and lie on a beach and get drunk!
