I don't let people who are rude to me get away with it. I bring it quickly to their attention. A lot of people that are rude intimidate the people they are rude to. I don't allow myself to become intimidated. I call them on it immediately.
I notice when I respond to rude people instead of react it makes them think. It gives them the opportunity to apologize or make amends. Not all rude people are affected by me. I feel I owe it to the other people the rude person will come into contact with to try to end it with me. Sometimes the person that is rude realizes they made a mistake. Sometimes they communicate to me why they felt the need to be rude.
I'm a people person. I have been rude at times in my life. I can appreciate being called on it when I'm being a jerk. It gives a person an opportunity to change. It gives them the opportunity to fix the damage they have done. It can keep them from having regrets at the end of the day.
I like to remind people that are rude to me that I am a person with feelings. I like to personalize it because they are human too.
Just the other night I was at a seven eleven store and I witnessed one of the ladies working there being rude to the other one working. I saw how it made her feel less than the person she was. I watched her whole demeanor change in a very short time. She was humiliated and I couldn't help but feel sad that she hadn't stood up for herself.
People can be rude to others for many different reasons. I know who I am as a person and I am glad that I feel confident enough to not stand for it.
