Should Americans be able to import drugs manufactured in the U.S, by U.S. companies at a cheaper rate than they can purchase those same drugs in the U.S. This is illegal, yet tens of thousands of seniors take trips to Canada to buy the same drug they could buy in their hometown, yet at a rate far less than it is available in their American hometown.

All the factors are the same, quality, plant manufactured at, research time, etc., yet the drug companies have managed to artificially inflate the U.S. prices to increase the profit level at the expense of the American citizen. Congress has chosen to let Americans pay more for these same drugs than Canadians or for that matter than people in parts of the former Soviet Union. Either Americans are subsidizing the drug costs in other parts of the world or drug companies are gouging Americans because our congress and our President have been bought by the drug companies.

We do now and have for many many years imported drugs from outside of our country, drugs manufactured outside of our country. Those drug go through the rigorous FDA process. Often a process which is made more cumbersome as domestic drug companies lobby to make it harder for drugs made elsewhere to be imported. American again pay extra for those drugs.

Having listened to countless stories of bus tours to Canada by old, drug dependent, seniors that must have affordable drugs to live, it is clear that our government has chosen drug company profit over the financial and physical health of its most vulnerable population. I urge you to ask your congressman or senator how much he receives directly or indirectly from the drug company lobby. I urge you to let them know that if drug reform is not passed that puts Americans first you will not vote for them.
