Let's face it; you hardly ever are able to recreate what the stylist does at the salon. We all know this and yet we stand in front of the mirror looking dismayed at the new tools and products they convinced us to buy. Let's wise up with a few simple techniques that we can do at home.
First, after washing your hair, comb it into the shape you are ultimately going for. This will make it easier for the hair to actually end up there. Don't rub the towel all over your head, then dry it and expect it to come out stick straight. Guide the hair where you want it to go before you even start.
Next, apply any product that you think you may need. If product isn't working for you or you don't like it, try something else or go with nothing. But note, this will most likely change the outcome of your hair. Remember that your stylist probably used product on you before they were done.
Then, set your hair dryer on the low setting and really focus on how you're holding the dryer. If you want a flatter style, point that dryer down. You want fluff, come in from underneath while focusing on the roots.
Also, utilize your fingers instead of brushes if you have a hard time manipulating the brush with the dryer. If you're good with the brush and dryer, go for it. Some of us may not be as talented.
Finally, you'll want to get the hair dry but not fried. Finish off by using your curling iron or straightener, whichever you prefer. Maybe add some of the products you were given at the salon, maybe not.
Keep practicing new techniques by learning from others in magazines or television. There are always great new tips coming at us from every angle.
