Today is the perfect day for writing. It's a beautiful autumn day, warm, but with a light, cool breeze. I have no appointments; no reason to have to leave the house. My computer is working perfectly. I live alone, so there will be no distractions. My little corner of the bedroom is set up efficiently; my printer turned on and waiting. As they say in the Marine Corps, I'm locked and loaded.
Last night I stayed up late, so I got up late. As usual, I watched Sunday Morning on CBS while getting my coffee fix and some yogurt. I went for a short hike. Time to get to work.
I begin. A movement catches the corner of my eye. OH MY GOD! There's a BIG spider crawling up the bedspread toward my pillow. I grab something and swat at him. I miss. I swat again. He falls to the floor. Where is he? I can't see him. Oh! There he is, at the edge of the bed skirt. Swat! He crawls under the computer desk. I run and get the bug spray. I spray. Again. I run and get the other kind of bug spray. More spraying. There! If he's down there he's got to be dead, or drowned. I keep an anxious eye out. The mood is gone. It's time for lunch and then my nap.
Seems like there's always something that distracts, try as you might.
