Last Hours
Knowing is the worse part.
Slowly, he's fading,
Dehydrating.
Coughing, gagging, choking,
Then nothing.
There he lay, motionless,
In a white bed,
In white sheets,
White face.
Slowly loosing consciousness,
Slowly disappearing,
Slowly going.
We hear the beeping,
Hear the shouts,
The cries,
Then nothing.
He's gone, somewhere all alone.
Left in sorrow, we mourn.
For his tenderness,
His caring,
His touch.
All we have left,
Are his gifts,
His love,
His whiskery face,
Gone.
Slowly being lowered.
WE hear sobs,
Pleading,
Sorrow,
Then nothing.
