How to extend your wardrobe on your own

Swap clothes with family and friends. This is especially good for growing children but can be good for anyone. For best results, stick with GENTLY USED clothing and no one will know they aren't brand new. Same thing goes for used clothing stores and yard sales. Choose carefully from among the clothes to bring home the treasures and not the trash. If you're smart, you can save a lot of money this way. Making your own clothes might also be a good idea if you have the time, patience, and know how. They can be knit, sewn, or crocheted. It's relatively simple to learn to knit or crochet a scarf, hat, slippers, or baby booties (a sweater, socks or mittens are harder) or a simple skirt. Well made items are great accessories to any wardrobe. Find good prices for good quality materials (sometimes remnant cloth is very cheap if your item is small) to make the clothes, or ask your friends/relatives for wool, cloth, notions, zippers, etc they're not going to use. You could also buy an item that't slightly too large but on sale and then alter it to fit you. This way, you could buy an item you otherwise love at a reasonable price. Be creative and you'll save lots of money and have fun doing it.
