Should an interpersonal communication class be required for high school students?

I would certainly say a big 'yes'. Any teacher would tell you that one of the most lacking skills among students is the ability to communicate clearly with others. Somehow comprehensive education has missed out on this very important life skill. I think interpersonal communication must be incorporated into present day education as students spend more and more time in front of their TV, computer or video games.

It is increasingly becoming necessary for schools to take on this vital role of teaching students interpersonal communicating skills as families become smaller and more segregated. Gone are the days when a child had cousins, uncles, aunts and grandparents around them to be able to practice their communicating skills. As families become smaller so does the opportunity to communicate. Parents are also finding it difficult as they have less time to spend with their children due to work pressure and to keep up with the infamous 'rat race'.

I would go further as to suggest that interpersonal communication class should be introduced very much earlier even before high school. The earlier it is introduced the better, as like all skills, children learn them better when they are younger.
