The term "dead beat dad" is a very misleading and cruel label. Mothers can be deadbeats as well, but how often does one hear about this subset of society? Almost never. Why is that? I wonder if it is because mothers are seen as weak and dependant upon someone or something else to support them. Throwing a father in jail for non-payment of over inflated child support debt, is just stupid and counter productive. Wages have been depressed in many parts of the country due to illegal immigration, the job market is bleak due to politicians stumping for this and that segment of the population. Child support enforcement bureaucracy is notorious for incompetence and arrogance in dealing with parents in general. Misallocation and blunders in figuring interest and arrearages. Parents should pay in equal to what it costs to raise a child just as they would if still together. It makes sense to me, I cannot figure out why it does not make sense to the government. Judges are to blame for this mess just as well as the federal government in making these absurd laws concerning children. Jailing a father for non payment of support does not help the child at all, and neither does taking his driver's license which is something that every adult needs to get around in order to find a job, keep a job in order to pay child support in the first place.
