Three Steps to Self Improvement!
Where is the path that leads to improving oneself? Is it found in learning everything there is to learn? Is it found in our attitude towards life? Is the path leading to ones self improvement found in our behavior?
Many books have been written detailing how one may go about improving oneself and I do not wish to add to the volume of literature that has been written. I do however wish to share my belief and actual teaching on the subject of self improvement.
In the questions I posed in the introduction to this article I shared three things I believe must be continuingly improved if a person wish to change the quality of their life. These three things; knowledge, attitude, and behavior, I believe, are the fundamentals of self improvement.
First, I believe that knowledge is at the foundation of all things good that can happen to a person. If an individual get a good education-that is learning those lessons that are taught in the institutions as well as those taught through living life I believe anything is possible. In the King James version of the bible in the book of Hosea chapter 4 verse 6 these words are recorded, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". The better educated one becomes the better prepared an individual is to meet the challenges they will face in life.
Certainly once a person gains knowledge it is hard to hold him or her down. Therefore, I teach that he who seeks knowledge must first understand and he who understands has wisdom. Wisdom that is gained through the assimulation of knowledge can and will launch the futures of all those who will take the path called education. William Butler Yeates said, "education is not the filling of a bucket but the lighting of a fire".
Secondly, I believe that our attitude will determine just how far our education will take us in life. Our attitudes reflects what it is that we believe inside. In the book Believe by Richard M. DeVos and Charles Paul Conn these words are written, "believe you can, and you'll find that you can! Try! You'll be surprised at how many good things can happen".
I was helped in my understanding that attitude is important when Glenn Clark in his book entitled, The Man Who Tapped The Secrets Of The Universe interviewed Walter Russell and asked him, "Can you give me the secret of life?"
The answer to me is revealing of how attitude influences the quality of a life that is lived as I share Walter Russell's
