Belks, Maurices, Hot Topic, Surf Shops-they all have their own clothing lines these days. But what if they are all too expensive, too repetitive, or just too uncomfortable? Maybe you could start one of your own! Otherwise you just might not be reading this.
To start your own clothing line, you should follow these steps, and in this order- 10 Basic Steps to creating Fashion Lines!
1. Look at other styles
Not for copying, no, no. To see what other people put together that is disliked or what small features are liked. What is sold out? What is on top shelves? What's priced highest that you could make for lower? What fabrics are wanted most by the public?
2. Design
Draw up a few designs. Do girls like it short these days? Do the guys like it baggy or tight in jeans? What patterns give a better look-or is just most popular? Figure out what would be the hit of the market and make it your own.
3. Gather fabric inventory
Go fabric shopping! After you know what the public likes to feel, go out and measure for yardage on the new designs you've finished. Maybe you'll need more for the shirts than the skirts, who knows. Maybe...
4. You should find some models
Find models looking for work on new styles, ones that could help attract attention outside your business and make that style look fabulous for any age!
5. Sew it up
Find some helpers and start cutting, seaming, surging, and sewing the designs into the outfits you've designed and created.
6. Pick a name
With whatever style you've figured into, what name for your clothing line would best fit this new trendy style ending this 2007 year that will be hit-known for the ages!
7. Advertise!
Open a store, rent some billboards, make a commercial, make sure everyone knows that your style is going to be this century's latest hit for the ages you're aiming for.
8. Prices
How much did the fabric cost you for one part? Can you afford to make it this cheap or this expensive to make more? Make sure you price the outfits just right so that you're making money-not losing it!
9. Enjoy your fashions.
Wear it yourself, give it to family, make sure everyone refers to the newest, hottest clothing line-you!
