This is a subject that I am sure will be much debated by a lot of different people with a lot of different experiences with nursing homes. There are a lot of times that nursing homes do help people get well. This is especially true in cases where rehabilitation is involved. If the person is not really sick but maybe broke a limb or something like that, nursing homes can be a big help. They do some wonderful rehabilitation work and do help a lot of people whether they are old or young.
The reason I say that generally nursing homes prepare you to die is that most of the time people don't go to as nursing home until they are too sick top take care of themselves or they are too sick for there children to handle anymore. When a parent or grandparent gets sick and can't take care of themselves any more, where do they go? A nursing home most of the time. There are some wonderful nursing homes and have assisted living that just help people who want to do things themselves or there are [places that have complete care for people that are pretty much totally incapacitated. I have had dealings with several different one's in Florida and Nebraska with grandparents, parents, and in-laws. They have all done a wonderful job with what they are supposed to do. but in all cases, the family member involved was never coming home again and they knew that. I think that affects the persons want to live and want to get well. I know that if I was put in a nursing home and new I wasn't ever going home, I don't think that no matter how nice the place was or how great the staff 3was or the how good the food was, it would make me want to live there forever.
In general I think nursing homes prepare you to die and try to make your life as comfortable and pleasant as possible until the day that the Lord calls you home. The Hospice Services available now at these places is awesome. Both of my parents had hospice before they passed away and hey made it so much easier.
