The best places for retirement in the United States will share one commonality, moderate climates and amenities for retirees. Four specific areas tout themselves as the best places, and will merit your consideration.
Florida lays claim as the number one retirement area for many from the northeast coast. It has much to offer, including moderate climate with water-related activities. The two biggest drawbacks today would lie in the frequency of killer hurricanes, and the high cost of living resulting from over-crowding.
Southern California has appeal to many retirees from the western coast, but has the drawback of dry climate, combined with less friendly cost of living factors than enjoyed by some other areas. It certainly merits a good looking over for retirees, among the other possibilities.
There are some interesting retirement possibilities in desert areas like Arizona, and New Mexico. The extreme low humidity, and heat might be unattractive to some, but many amenities are available to retirees able to adapt to the climate considerations.
South Texas is probably the most interesting area to consider for the greatest number of retirees based upon affordability, and variety of attractions. The southern tip of Texas, known as the Rio Grande Valley has been a favorite of Midwesterners for decades. The sub-tropical climate is ideal for golfers, and outdoor activities of many types.
The blending of cultures with our southern neighbor Mexico provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. Trips to Saltillo, Monterrey, and other interesting destinations are available with tour guides at very low cost. The warm waters of South Padre Island are within an hour drive for those who love the beach.
Wildlife lovers can enjoy the most abundant variety of birds in the continental United States since the coastal migratory bird routes converge over the area. Nature trails are available throughout the area for investigation. Perhaps of more importance to most retirees, many facilities are available to retirees seeking lower costs, and activities that are designed to meet their interests.
There is no doubt about one thing regarding the best place to retire in the United States, and that is avoiding areas heavily dependent on expensive fuels for heating and traveling. The subjects should be carefully researched to insure that your retirement results in an affordable area that will best serve your needs.
