The Daytime Soap Opera, One Life to Live, has been on the air for close to 40 years when it first aired in July of 1968 on ABC. Agnes Nixon was the one who created this long running soap opera. One Life to Live was set in the fictional city of Llanview, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

Originally, the show was set around the wealthy and powerful Lord Family, the middle class Riley family and The Woleck Family. From the beginning, the show has been centered around the woman named Victoria "Viki" Lord, the daughter of Victor Lord. She had been played by Emmy winning actress, Erika Slazak. Viki has weathered love and loss over the years, also suffered widowhood, rape, divorce, stroke and breast cancer. She has also suffered a disorder called dissociative identity disorder on and off for years.

Viki has been married many times. Her first husband was thought to be Joe Riley until years later when it was discovered that she had been married as a teenager, to a Roger Gordon and they had a child together. She was given a drug to forget by her father, Victor. She was happily married to Joe Riley for years before he died. She later married Clint Buchanan, who was the son of the wealthy Buchanan family. This was a off and on again relationship, especially when her alternate personality came out. Viki later marries Sloan Carpernter, who later dies. She also ends up marrying Clint's brother, Ben Davidson.

Viki has had five children: Megan Gordon, who has since passed away, Kevin Riley Buchanan, Joseph "Joey" Riley Buchanan Jr, Jessica Buchanan and Natalie Buchanan. Their was a twist in the storyline about Jessica and Natalie. When they were born, Vicki thought she had only one daughter. Viki has the following siblings: Tina Clayton Lord, Todd Manning, Meredith Lord Woleck, who has since passed away, the late Tony Lord.

For the longest time, Viki has had a running feud with Dorian Cramer Lord. She initially blamed Dorian for the death of her father. Dorian had been Victor's nurse and they had married and ever since they have been feuding. It came out years later that Victor had sexually molested Viki and that was why she had a multiple personality disorder. Her most famous alternate personality was Niki Smith, basically she was the trampy side of Viki. She had many other personalities and they came out when she discovered the secret about her past.
